Free October Half Term Halloween things to do for kids in South Wales

There are lots of free October half term Halloween 2021 activities and events in South Wales this Autumn. See a dragon and a ghostbuster car plus a pumpkin festival, outdoor art, spooky trails and more in South Wales this Halloween and half term. So finding things to do for kids doesn’t have to to be expensive. Check out the list below for all the details.

1. See a dragon at Mermaid Quay, Cardiff

Saturday 23rd October- Sunday 7th November

The largest animatronic dragon in the UK will be visiting Mermaid Quay during October half term. The huge 15 metre long dragon which has a moving head and tail with a scary roar and smoky breath has never been displayed before. To continue to excitement for the children of getting up close with a Welsh dragon there will be a dragon ride and a variety of dragon themed competitions and activities to keep them entertained.

2. Halloween at Quadrant Shopping, Swansea

Monday 25th October- Friday 29th October

There’s a whole week of free spooktacular fun planned for October half term including ghost stories, Halloween craft activities and sensory play.

3. Spooks in the City, Swansea

Saturday 30th October

Free event with family games and entertainment A pumpkin hunt and parade, fancy dress, glitter tattoos plus much more!

4. Head 4 Arts Nature art

Sat 23rd October- Pontypool Park

Thursday 28th October- Morgan Jones Park Caerphilly

Friday 29th October Bedwellty Park, Tredegar

Between 10.30am- 3pm join in and create some wild art with the Head 4 Arts team. Help make a giant outdoor artwork by collecting twigs, leaves, conkers and other pieces of nature. A fun, free activity.

5. Penarth Halloween Trail and Halloween Face Painting

Pick up a free trail map from Glass by Design and end in the Umpa Lumpa Sweet Shop for some free treats. Visit Foxy’s Deli on Victoria Road on Saturday 30th October between 10am and 4pm for free Halloween face painting.

6. Cowbridge and Barry Spooky Windows Trail

As part of a Spooktacular Vale Town Centres event both Barry and Cowbridge will be holding a Halloween Shop Window competition. Enjoy a stroll around the spooky high street and vote for your favourite display.

7. See the Ghostbuster’s Ecto-1 Car St David’s Dewi Sant Shopping Centre, Cardiff

You can see this iconic car on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st October. To celebrate the release of the new film Ghostbusters Afterlife, only in cinemas the Ecto-1 car will be coming to St David’s this half term. Have fun getting a picture with the car and be careful you don’t get caught in the life-size ghost trap!

8. Caerwent Village Spooky House Trail

Visit the village of Caerwent from 23rd October -31st October and see the spooky houses. Can you visit them all? Find a map and further details on the Facebook page Caerwent Village Hall and Playing Fields.

9. Halloween Fun at Cwmbran Shopping

Saturday 30th October 11am-4pm Dracula and Vampira will be by the Band Stand during the day ready if you dare to take a spooky selfie with them. There is also a fancy dress competitions, free creepy colouring sheets and Halloween digital trail. Head to Powys House to scan the QR code. More information can be found on their Facebook page ‘Cwmbran Shopping’.

10. Harry Potter Anniversary Tour Cardiff Station

October 26th-28th The iconic platform 9 3/4 trolley will be arriving in Cardiff Station. Harry Potter fans will not want to miss the opportunity for a photo and are invited to attend in their best Harry Potter costumes. Find out more in our Harry Potter article linked below

11. Pumpkin Festival, Porthkerry Country Park

Fun, free festival for all the family on weekend 30th-31st October. Enjoy pumpkin crazy golf, pumpkin lantern making, spooky games and face painting. Fancy dress encouraged.

12. Halloween at Mumbles Pier

Free spooky fun in October half term from 25th October including find the pumpkin trail, cupcake decorating, magic show. On Halloween Sunday 31st October enjoy a fancy dress dance extravaganza.

13. See Spooky Balloons

The Red Dragon Centre have a fun display of spooky balloon decorations for Halloween and October half term. The spooktacular display includes a huge ghost, spider and pumpkin.
