1. Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo

Located in Kilgetty, Pembrokeshire Folly Farm is suitable for all ages with a variety of of indoor and outdoor attractions making it a great family day out whatever the weather. Perfect for those rainy days.

You can see over 750 animals including an outdoor zoo, indoor tropical area with crocodiles, snakes and fish plus the barn where you can meet all kinds of farm animals such as chickens, goats and sheep. There are a selection of themed play areas outdoors with a large indoor adventure playground where kids can enjoy sliding and climbing.

A visit to Folly Farm wouldn’t be complete without going on one of the many fairground rides. The indoor vintage fairground has all the traditional family favourites like a ghost train, horse carousel and bumper cars. Outside you can ride in the big wheel and compete on the Follystone driving circuit.

2. Llys-y-Fran Lake

Following a major redevelopment by Welsh Water Llys-y-Fran Lake has lots of things to do for families in Pembrokeshire.

Llys-y-Fran Lake is an ideal place for a family adventure day. Located in scenic countryside near Haverfordwest close to the foot of Preseli Hills, Llys-y-Fran Lake is part of a collection of Welsh Water adventure destinations across Wales including Llandegfedd Lake and Elan Valley Lakes.

There is a Visitor Centre with cafe and gift shop. The cafe menu has a variety of seasonal meals, snacks and drinks. Perfect to start your visit and give you energy to enjoy the water and land activities on offer including paddle boarding, kayaks, cycling, walking trails plus much more. The gift shop sells local produce and souvenirs.

Near to the Visitor Centre you will find a children’s adventure playground at Llys-y-Fran Lake which includes a zip wire, swings, monkey bars, large see-saw and a variety of climbing nets to keep the little ones entertained. A picnic area with benches is located nearby so you can easily keep a close eye on your little ones adventures.

3. Heatherton World of Activities

Heatherton is an award winning destination for a family day out located just 3 miles from Tenby.

Open all year round with free entry you just pay for activities you want to take part in. Suitable for all ages there is a huge selection of things to do for families at Heatherton including jumping pillows, junior go karts, bumper boats, maze, crazy golf, adventure playground, paintballing and for the older kids the Tree Tops Trail. The trail involves a high ropes adventure swinging in the trees crossing rope bridges and ending with a speedy zip line!

4. Manor Wildlife Park

Manor Wildlife Park is located a short distance from Tenby. The park specialises in walking safari experiences where you get to experience walking into the animal habitats. This is the only walking safari in Wales. Animals include wallabies, pandas, lemur, giant rabbits, monkeys and tigers.

Children can also enjoy an indoor play area and undercover bouncy castle. You are able to take a picnic to eat at Manor Wildlife Park and there is also a cafe on site with a variety of cakes, sandwiches, stone-baked pizzas and hot and cold drinks.

5. Pembroke Castle

Pembroke Castle is a medieval castle in the centre of Pembroke. A fantastic place for kids to explore and immerse themselves in the rich castle history starting way back in 1093 when Earl Roger of Montgomery built the first Pembroke Castle.

Kids can run around the largest map of Wales in the world which can be found inside the castle grounds. The Great Map is part of CADW’s Heritage Tourism Project and shows the location of every important castle and religious landmark in Wales. It can be seen in our image of Pembroke Castle above which gives you an idea of just how big it is.

There are free guided tours, exhibits which help to tell the story of Pembroke Castle and a dungeon tower where you can see one of the few remaining medieval jails. Also don’t miss climbing to the top of The Great Keep an 80 foot high castle tower offering one of the best views in Pembroke from the top.

Pembroke Castle has a cafe and gift shop for those all important souvenir memories of your visit.

6. The Dinosaur Park Tenby

The Dinosaur Park is located near Tenby and offers a roarsome family day out!

Experience The Dinosaur Trail a woodland walk with an exciting twist as you discover dinosaurs hidden amongst the trees. Find life size Velociraptors, T-Rex, Stegosaurus and more with authentic sound effects.

7. Oakwood Theme Park

A visit to Pembrokeshire is not complete without a trip to Oakwood, Wales biggest theme park. With adrenaline fuelled rides and toddler friendly rollercoasters Oakwood is suitable for all ages.

Family rides include Tree Top rollercoaster, Bobsleigh sledges, spooky haunted house and Pirate Ship.

In addition to the rides there is also a new arcade full of the latest games and entertainment plus mini golf and a shooting range.

8. Carew Castle and Tidal Mill

Carew Castle is situated in a picturesque location in the village of Carew, Pembrokeshire. You can complete a mile long circular walk around the castle which will take you past the tidal mill and gives you the opportunity to see views of the castle and grounds across the water.

Carew Castle tells a story of its history including knights, war and ghosts. Be sure to keep an eye out for bats as Carew Castle has become a haven for these winged creatures.

The tidal mill is the only restored tidal mill in Wales . It has fun activities for kids to do with colouring sheets and questions to answer. Plus interactive tasks such as lifting flour bags. Are you strong enough for the heaviest?

The causeway outside the mill is known for being one of the best spots for crab catching in Pembrokeshire. It is part of the circular walk around the castle. Pick up a crabbing kit from the Mill Shop to get you started.

After exploring the castle children can enjoy time in the play area. Refreshments are available from the Nest Tearoom which serves light lunches and cakes with hot and cold beverages.

9. Colby Woodland Gardens

Colby Woodland Gardens covers 8 acres with wildflower meadows, streams and woods to explore as a family. With seasonal nature displays from bluebells in Spring to the rich colours of the Autumn leaves Colby offers a peaceful escape from busy family life.

The tea room has a menu of delicious sandwiches and cakes available to eat on site or takeaway.

10. The Welsh Wildlife Centre

There are lots of things to do for children at The Welsh Wildlife Centre. Families can enjoy lots of nature activities with four trails around the Teifi Marsh nature reserve , wildlife to spot and an adventure playground.

Explorer backpacks can be hired from the shop which are full of different nature activities to do whilst at the Wildlife Centre. Enjoy a meal with a view at the Glasshouse Cafe which is situated on the top floor of The Welsh Wildlife Centre looking over the woodland and Teifi river.
